During construction work on the planned fish ladder in Heilbronn-Horkheim, the bridge is to be closed to cars. The parking spaces of a sports club on the other side could then no longer be used. The builder, the Heidelberg New Waterways Construction Authority, therefore wants to provide replacement parking spaces for the duration of the construction work. However, there are old walnut trees on the meadow provided for this purpose, which may only be cleared under strict conditions for nature conservation reasons.

Roots exposed with suction excavator

The root system of the trees had to be exposed and examined in order to determine how the compensatory parking spaces could be laid out without damaging the trees or the roots. Civil engineering work with a normal excavator would cause too much damage to the roots, and exposing the root system by hand would be far too costly, so a so-called suction excavator was used.
