Cold, dreary days invite you to stay at home. The cold season has its own peculiarities and is certainly not everyone's favorite. Especially when you come home by car and have to get out in a muddy, unpaved parking lot in front of the house. Since it is usually also not very pleasant when you get your shoes dirty and all the dirt also still carries into the house. This is certainly what our customer thought when he decided in the summer to pave the area in front of the house, which is usually used for parking a vehicle, with gravel. However, gravel alone can only meet these requirements to a limited extent. A much better solution is to use it in combination with the KM30 gravel mat, which increases the load-bearing capacity many times over. This is exactly what our customer did. Anyone who wants to realize a similar project will inevitably come across some terminology that basically means the same product. Frequently mentioned terms are, for example, Gravel Grid, gravel honeycomb or honeycomb mat, etc. The difference becomes clear only by their structure.
The KM30 gravel mat is uniquely different from many solutions available on the market. Due to the water-permeable micro-perforated base plate of the Kiesmatte KM30, the natural drainage capacity of the bulk material is completely preserved. Rainwater can flow off unhindered at any time and the accumulation of rainwater in places is reliably reduced. Another aspect that should not be underestimated is the fact that the KM30 gravel mat is available in white for light bulk material and in black for dark bulk material.
For the Installation, we recommend laying a weed fabric under the gravel mat beforehand to inhibit or suppress later weed growth. The geotextile also performs another important function. It separates the levelling layer of fine chippings applied to the weed fabric from the subgrade. The fabric prevents fine chippings from migrating into the subgrade.
In the current project, the gravel mats were overfilled about 1 - 2 cm above the top edge. This protects the gravel mat from gravitational forces, damage and increased wear, while still maintaining the stabilizing effect.
