In this client project, the Coconut mulch mat MMK600 Laid in late autumn as a preventative weed control measure and for slope stabilization. The customer opted for the mulch mat with the black porous film to ensure that no weeds could grow before planting on the slope in spring.
Mulch mats are frequently used, as in this example, for slope stabilization and erosion control. Mulch mats differ from slope mats in that they have an additional porous film and a significantly higher surface weight. Both products, however, enable slope stabilization and subsequent planting or the low-erosion covering of the slope with, for example, topsoil for later sowing of grass seed (similar to a seed mat).
This customer took the easy way out when installing the mulch mat. Instead of laying the mulch mat vertically (top/bottom) as recommended and securing it by digging it in at the top and bottom of the slope, the customer installed the mulch mat horizontally from left to right to save himself work.
The mulch mat was then secured to the slope with ground anchors and covered with soil at the base and crown of the slope. This method of installation is unconventional, but very quick and easy to implement.
