Keep the paddock floor stable and dry

Published on November 18, 2018 by Kim Schäfer

Uneven and softened areas in the paddock, as well as unstable ground in the area of the horse shelter, should be permanently improved. In the context of Paddock panels This clearly demonstrates how heavily used areas can be stabilized so that they remain dry, resilient and usable in the long term.

Initial situation with soft and uneven ground

After rain, water regularly pooled in the paddock, leaving deep hoofprints. The ground was uneven and only usable to a limited extent.
The area around the horse shelter also lacked a stable foundation, meaning the surface was neither permanently load-bearing nor reliably accessible. The aim was to permanently stabilize both areas and make them more usable.

Implementation for two different uses

For the redesign, the existing ground was prepared and a stable foundation was created. The grid elements were then laid across the surface and connected to each other.

The paddock was filled with sand to create a firm yet comfortable surface for the animals. Fine gravel was used in the shelter area to create a more durable and easily accessible surface.

Noticeable improvement in daily use

After the implementation, both areas show significantly improved usability. The soil remains stable, water drains better, and the surfaces are less sensitive to weather or stress.

  • Significantly less water accumulation in the paddock
  • No deep hoof indentations or sinking.
  • Driveable area for vehicles and trailers

A durable solution for heavily used areas

The result is two functional areas that meet their respective requirements. The paddock remains usable even when wet, while the shelter provides a stable base for vehicles. Both areas have proven reliable in everyday use and have demonstrated their durability even under intensive use.

If you want to stabilize similar surfaces, this offers Ground grid BG30 a proven and field-tested way to permanently fasten heavily used areas.
