In this case study, a farmyard entrance and a caravan site were stabilized and made accessible using our BG50 ground grid from the ground reinforcement category, preventing unsightly ruts or tracks from forming in the lawn. First, let's talk about the product itself. The ground grid, made of LDPE plastic, is not only elastic and resilient, but also compensates for critical stress points in the product.

The BG50 ground grid can support loads of up to 500 t/m² and carries an axle load of 12 tons. Installing the grid is straightforward. First, create a substructure, fill it with gravel, sand, or other loose material, and then install the ground grid on top. Connecting the BG50 ground grid is also simple. The 16 coupling elements, consisting of hooks and eyes that snap into each other, are easy to use. The BG50 cannot be removed vertically or horizontally (once it is installed). This reduces the risk of tripping hazards, for example, and prevents the floor from sliding apart or being pushed open.

Regarding the application itself, the customer wrote to us:

We wanted to make our garden driveway accessible so that we could easily reach the back of our garden with our tractor or caravan, even in the wet season, without the ground giving way and creating unsightly ruts.

First, the substructure was constructed and manufactured with 25 cm of 0/32 gravel to withstand the expected loads. A 3-5 cm thick layer of chippings was then applied and leveled. The BG50 plastic ground grid was then laid directly onto the substructure.
In the next step, the 5 cm high BG50 soil grid was filled with a fertile soil mix and lawn seeds / grass seeds up to the top edge.

We are thrilled with the result…
