Secure slopes and walls with the embankment mat coconut BMK350

Published on September 7, 2017 by Kim Schäfer

Embankment mat They can easily secure and reinforce the slope. Furthermore, the erosion control mat also serves as erosion protection, which is a significant advantage for both inclines and declines. In this particular case study, the customer used the erosion control mat to stabilize the slope above a slate wall.

Before starting the installation, he partially dismantled the wall and removed the slope. This created a clean edge between the earth and the wall. He then laid the mats and secured them in the ground with BA230 ground anchors. Finally, the customer covered the base of the mats with slate stones, making the transition look neater.

The BM350 embankment mat is made of 100% natural coconut fibers quilted with PP thread in a PP mesh. If the slope is to be covered with grass seed, for example, it is recommended to sow the grass seeds onto the embankment mat and cover them with fertile soil after sowing. The grass seeds and soil are held in place by the coconut fibers of the embankment mat and protected from wind erosion, water erosion, and soil erosion. For this reason, the embankment mat is also often called a seed mat.

Installation instructions: When installing the embankment mat, ensure that the individual panels are laid flat next to each other, perpendicular to the slope. The overlap should be approximately 10 cm at the vertical longitudinal joints and approximately 10–20 cm at the transverse joints. The open edge of the overlap must face away from the prevailing wind direction. The embankment mat should be secured in the ground with either steel ground anchors (U-shaped wire brackets) or wooden stakes, preferably made of beech, as long as no vegetation has grown.
