In this customer project, the BG50 plastic ground grid was installed and filled to create paved and unsealed rescue routes, fire department access routes, and escape routes for a renowned Bavarian brewery company. The plastic ground grid was installed directly onto the prepared substructure.

The paths and trackways were already planned and constructed in such a way that the ground grids could be installed with virtually no waste. In a few cases, the ground grids had to be fitted into the surfaces by sawing, grinding, or cutting. The edges of the escape routes were traditionally constructed with a concrete curb or deep curb.

The honeycombs or cells of the BG50 plastic ground grid were filled with either gravel/crushed stone for stabilized gravel paths or with nutrient-rich substrate/seeds, depending on the planned path design or area design, in order to create a permanently beautiful, green and stabilized lawn or path.


What basic work needs to be planned or carried out beforehand?

Creating a fire access road usually requires certain excavation work. Here are some possible steps:

  1. Surveying the terrain: First, the site must be surveyed to ensure that the fire service access is placed in the correct location and that it meets the required minimum width and height requirements.
  2. Soil erosion: To make room for the driveway, the ground may need to be removed. It may be necessary to loosen the soil to create a good foundation or to control the slope of the driveway.
  3. Gravel or gravel: After the soil has been removed, a layer of crushed stone or gravel may need to be added to create a stable base and ensure the access is passable for fire engines. This is especially important to ensure the access remains passable even during inclement weather.
  4. Compression: After applying the layer of crushed stone or gravel, it must be carefully compacted to create a stable surface that can withstand the loads of fire engines.
  5. Surface Administration: After compacting the crushed stone or gravel, another layer of material such as crushed stone, gravel, asphalt, or concrete may need to be applied to create a smooth, level surface.
  6. Drainage: If the driveway is located in an area with high water volume, it may be necessary to install a drainage layer to ensure that the water is diverted and the driveway does not flood.
  7. Tags: Finally, markings can be placed on the access road to ensure that fire engines can easily find the way.

It is important to ensure that all work is carried out by experienced and qualified professionals to ensure that the driveway meets the required standards and is accessible in the event of an emergency.
