The multifunctional arena in the beautiful High Harz Mountains is probably familiar to many. It has been a popular destination for winter sports enthusiasts worldwide since 1911. For decades, ice hockey, ice skating, and even ice discos have been held here. The core idea behind the modernization of the ice rink was to expand the variety of year-round activities in Schierke. Naturally, the long tradition as a winter sports resort played just as important a role in this as the now necessary year-round use option for the more than 180.000 overnight guests in Schierke.
Ice skating will be possible during the winter months regardless of the weather thanks to the planned covered, 25 by 56-meter artificial ice rink, the cold plate built into the ground, and the porous asphalt on top. But what will happen to the asphalt if various summer sports are planned here? Due to its structure, porous asphalt has many advantages that can be utilized for the ice skating rink in winter. But this very structure also harbors a serious disadvantage. Heavy loads would cause immediate damage.
To counteract this disadvantage, a load-distributing solution is needed. This is where our MSB10 Multi Sports Flooring comes in. The product boasts a whopping 441 support points per tile to optimally distribute loads and ensure perfect floor contact. The Snap-Fit connection system enables quick and seamless surface design with immediate use. Simply click in and you're done! The sports flooring itself is designed for hard, level floors, and the tile's movable joint also allows for inclines of up to +/- 15°.
This allows the product to adapt to uneven flooring, effectively preventing potential tripping hazards. The sports floor also has a slight cushioning effect (USRV 49) of approximately 6%, thus preventing additional injury risks. It goes without saying that this cushioning effect also contributes significantly to a pleasant walking experience.
In addition to these fundamental properties that led to the selection of the MSB10 Multi Sports Floor, there is another key feature that was gratefully utilized in this major project. The tiles are available in a variety of standardized colors (RAL 9022, 3020, 6002, 2008, 5010, 9011, etc.), thus creating virtually no limits to individual playing field designs.
As can be easily seen in the reference images, our customer installed a floor protection fleece in addition to the multi-sport flooring. While this isn't generally necessary, it was specifically requested by the customer. The fleece additionally contributes to load distribution and protects the existing flooring underneath.
