High levels of traffic pollution
The area was completely redesigned as part of extensive measures around the building and outdoor areas. In addition to the courtyard, paths and green spaces were also created.
The aim was to create a parking area that meets the demands of regular vehicle traffic. This includes not only cars but also vans and delivery vehicles that use the area daily and put additional strain on it through recurring movements.
Construct a stable and load-bearing gravel surface
First, a suitable substructure was constructed, forming the basis for subsequent use. Crucially, the surface must be able to reliably withstand recurring loads.
The grid elements were then laid, connected to each other, and filled in sections with gravel or crushed stone. The following was used: gravel mat KM30, which distributes and reduces the loads.
Dimensionally stable even under shunting loads
When vehicles drive over the surface, in addition to the wheel loads, additional forces are exerted by steering movements and maneuvering, which put particular strain on the surface.
Thanks to its stabilized structure, the gravel remains bound within the surface even under load. This effectively prevents rutting, ensuring the surface remains dimensionally stable and uniformly usable even with repeated use. At the same time, rainwater can still seep into the ground, maintaining the natural drainage function.
Especially in comparison to unbound gravel, a significantly more stable and uniformly usable surface is evident.

The result is a courtyard surface that functions reliably even with high usage. The combination of stabilization and drainage ensures that the surface remains functional in the long term and requires less maintenance.
