Laying the mulch mat coconut MMK600 as erosion protection for slope stabilization

Published on February 20, 2025 by Kim Schäfer

This customer example shows the installation of the Mulch mat MMK600 as erosion protection for Embankment or slope stabilizationThe MMK600 mulch mat is laid on a slope or embankment.

How to lay the mulch mat correctly

The mulch mat must lie completely flat and without gaps on the slope. When laying the mulch mat, it is recommended to start at the top edge of the slope and secure the mulch mat by burying it in the ground.

In the next step, the mulch mat can be rolled slowly and carefully down the slope. Once the base of the slope is reached, the mulch mat can be easily cut to length with a knife or scissors. The installed mulch mat is then secured with approximately 3–5 ground anchors per linear meter. It is also recommended to further secure the mulch mat at the base of the slope by digging it into the ground.

When laying the second sheet/roll, proceed in the same way, ensuring that the individual sheets are laid side by side, perpendicular to the slope. The overlap should be approximately 10 cm at the vertical longitudinal joints and approximately 10–20 cm at the transverse joints. The open edge of the overlap must face away from the prevailing wind direction.

Cross joints must always be overlapped from top to bottom. The mulch mat laid in this way can be planted if necessaryto naturally secure the slope with deep-rooted plants. Alternatively, depending on the slope gradient, the mulch mat can be sown similarly to a seed mat and then lightly covered with soil. The mulch mat is often used in Gardening and landscaping employed.
