Ground protection protects sensitive surfaces from damage caused by high loads, ensures optimal load distribution and makes them passable.

Depending on the design, they can withstand loads of 5 to 380 tons per panel – from light applications at events and in gardening and landscaping to demanding applications on construction sites and heavy-duty projects.

Choosing the right soil protection system depends on several factors.

• Subsurface: However, the load-bearing capacity of the systems always depends on the type and condition of the subfloor. A dry, hard, and paved floor supports more weight than a wet, soft natural floor. Therefore, it is important to pay attention to the maximum load-bearing capacity information for the various soil conditions, which is stated in the product details of each slab. There can be significant differences in the maximum load-bearing capacity, which, however, have nothing to do with the quality of the slabs but are influenced solely by the soil conditions. It is recommended to have the soil condition checked by an expert before using the slabs.
• weather: Projects must also be exposed to seasonal and weather-related influences such as rain, frost, or heat, which further weaken the subsurface. A stable system ensures safety and durability – even under adverse conditions.

• Release: The longer a floor protection system is in use, the more robust it should be. The reason: Over time, the frequency and intensity of loads that can directly impact the subsurface increase. While lighter systems are often sufficient for short-term applications, a more robust system that functions reliably even under constant stress is recommended for longer-term projects.
• Profiling: For vehicles, a coarse profile is usually required to ensure good tire grip. However, such a profile is rather unpleasant for pedestrians and can even pose a tripping hazard. Therefore, for temporary paths and areas, for example at events, slabs with a flatter, finer profile (e.g., the FastFloor 43) can be selected.

Plastic ground protection mats are extremely durable and, when used properly, can last for many years. A general lifespan cannot be determined, as factors such as the subsurface, load, frequency of use, and maintenance are crucial.
