Once again a beautifully implemented private end customer project, which shows how quickly and easily it is possible to sustainably stabilize paved and unsealed surfaces with our Gravel Grid KG30 and crushed stone. As always, it all starts with assessing and/or Create the subgrade or base course. The goal was to make the existing open space usable as a parking lot or parking space for two cars. According to the expected loads, the substructure was constructed. Subsequently, the 3-5 cm high fine chippings, also known as crushed sand, was spread on the base course as a leveling layer for leveling or height compensation and properly removed. Thus, most of the work was done and the laying of the gravel grid could be started.
The Gravel Grid KG30 is thanks to the small dimensions (580 x 580 mm) and the low weight (900gr), literally child's play to lay. An outstanding feature is the solid and simple connection and interlocking of the gravel grid with each other. This allows a proper connection of the individual grids as a whole, an important property, which hardly any competitor product has.
As can be seen in the pictures, the Gravel Grid KG30 was adapted to the existing surface using a jigsaw. Basically, the grid can be machined and cut with any tool that cuts, grinds or saws. After all Gravel Grid were laid, the grids, honeycombs and cells were backfilled with Jura crushed stone. Optionally, the Gravel Grid can actually be filled with any mineral, whether gravel, round gravel, chippings or crushed stone. It is only important to pay attention to the grain size. For car parking lots, we recommend a grain size in the range of 10 mm to 20 mm. You can also use smaller grain sizes, but you will have the problem that especially in winter the small grain will be driven out of the area by the winter tires of the cars and into the public area. Not only does that look unsightly and make work, but over time you will have to backfill the area with mineral.
