Description

No slope is too steep and no ground too soft for the walking excavator. Whether in rough terrain, in swamps, in narrow canals, in streams and rivers or even in torrents. Even slopes of over 100%, water depths of up to 2.00 m or deep mud do not pose an unsolvable problem. In short: walking excavators can be used almost everywhere, but like all other excavators they leave tracks and compact Soft Grounds. We show in this application example how to manage not to compact the forest soil or even leave tracks.

What is a walking excavator?

A walking excavator, also known as a crawler excavator with walking gear or climbing excavator, is a special type of excavator designed mainly for working on uneven terrain or difficult ground. Due to its special design, the walking excavator can work on uneven ground or slopes without tipping over or losing its stability. The legs of the walking excavator move independently and adapt to the terrain, providing even load distribution and increased stability.

Walking excavators are widely used in construction, forestry, silviculture, hydraulic engineering & environmental engineering, especially on difficult ground such as mountain slopes or uneven terrain. They are also used in landscaping and waterway construction to perform earthwork, move rock or excavate pits.

Can trackway mats protect a forest floor?

Yes, trackway mats can help protect forest soil. trackway mats are often used as temporary surface reinforcement or soil protection to protect soil from damage by heavy machinery or vehicles.

When heavy machinery or vehicles must be used on forest floors, trackway mats can be used as temporary surface reinforcement to protect the soil from damage caused by the weight and pressure of the machinery. They can also be used as temporary access roads to facilitate access to hard-to-reach areas without damaging the forest floor.

However, it is important to note that trackway mats have limited ability to protect the forest floor and their use should be done with caution. The use of trackway mats can reduce the weight and pressure on the soil, but they can still harm the roots and other sensitive ecosystems of the forest if not properly placed or used. Therefore, it is advisable to consult a professional to ensure that trackway mats are placed and used properly to maximize protection of forest soils.
