Description

A beautiful spectacle can be seen again and again at airfields, where gliders and sport pilots regularly pursue their aerial pleasure. Just in time for Whitsun, we received these pictures of a really successful customer project. Anyone who has ever visited an airfield, for example on an open day, will certainly have noticed that there is little or no paved surface. As a rule, the sports aircraft are maneuvered directly across the meadows. Of course, this varies from airfield to airfield and always depends on the respective operators. But one thing should be clear: even if aircraft are primarily flying above the clouds, they can still be found on the ground at least before and after each flight. And this is where the first parallels with vehicles can be drawn.

We have already addressed the problem of unpaved parking areas in some of our reference projects. Vehicles have wheels to drive on, and these wheels tend to dig into unpaved ground or leave unsightly marks Trackways. Especially when the ground is somewhat softened due to weather conditions. The same applies to aircraft, whose landing gears also have wheels for moving around. Nevertheless, an aircraft getting stuck is a much greater problem than would be the case with a vehicle.

The solution here is also very simple, as the current customer project impressively demonstrates. With our Ground Grid BG50, this problem can be overcome in just a few steps. First of all, a substructure must be produced, which is then filled with crushed stone, sand or other bulk materials and the Ground Grid laid on top. To prevent mixing of the soil layers (topsoil & subsoil), it is recommended to lay a Geotextile between the base layer and Ground Grid.

In the next operation, the 5 cm high Ground Grid BG50 is backfilled to the top edge with a fertile soil mix of turf / grass seed. The special structure ensures an ecological surface paving with an outstanding drainage function. Through which nothing stands in the way of the subsequent watering of the seed.

In principle, nature takes care of the rest! Finished is a paved place to maneuver and walk on, without having lost the natural appearance of a meadow.
